Champleve Design Technique. Champleve pattern motifs are created by first carving each, individual element of the design motif – called "cells," or "troughs" – into the surface of the base metal. Collectively, the several cells and troughs create the finished design and its several colors. Once carved into the metal, each cell is filled with differing colors of Vitreous enamel, then fired until molten.
