Cloisonne Design Technique. Cloisonne pattern motifs, on the other hand, are created atop the surface metal by soldering, or gluing, wafer thin strips of gold, or silver, wire into "compartments"; essentially elevated "color corrals" that add shape and barricade one color from another. Called cloisons in French, the several raised compartments are filled with differing colors of Vitreous enamel, then fired until the enamel melts. Collectively, the surface affixed cloisons create the finished design motif.
